New Film and Dialogue Series Launches in Twin Cities
New series "IZUN/MIZAN: A Film and Dialogue Series" will be launched in the Twin Cities (*"Balance" in Hebrew & Arabic) this February, focusing on films that explore complexity of Palestinian/Israeli conflict coupled with post-film dialogue that deepens community connections
Designed for interfaith communities as well as college campuses, IZUN/MIZAN will feature award-winning films that portray the complexity of the Israeli/Palestinian conundrum, followed by an in-depth, respectful dialogue guided by trained facilitators about the issues raised in the film and the conflict itself.
The series brings together a variety of organizations and academic departments and will be held initially within three different communities. Events are free of charge but donations will gladly be accepted at the door.
In cooperation with Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, The Islamic Center of Minnesota, Mount Zion Temple, and the Saint Paul Interfaith Network, Izun/Mizan presents:Refreshments will be served at the above two events.
Sponsored by the University of Minnesota's Departments of History, German, Scandinavian and Dutch, Gender and Women's Studies and housed under the Center for Jewish Studies, Izun/Mizan will feature the two films listed above plus one other on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis at Nicholson Hall, Room #135 (216 Pillsbury Dr SE, Mpls, MN 55455)Dinner will be provided at the University of Minnesota Series.
There will also be a series planned at Macalester College later this Spring.Izun/Mizan is available to come to other institutions of higher learning, congregations, groups, and other organizations.
Izun/Mizan is funded, in part, by the Minnesota State Arts Board through the arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the Legacy Amendment vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008, and with the support of Rimon: The Minnesota Jewish Arts Council, an initiative of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation, the sponsoring agencies and departments at the University of Minnesota.

AMERICAN STUDIES ASSOCIATION AWARDS CEREMONY (2011)
The Lora Romero First Book Publication Prize was established in 2002
and is awarded annually for the best-published first book in American
Studies that highlights the intersections of race with gender, class,
sexuality and/or nation.
